Andreea Anghel

b. 1990

Additional info:

Andreea Anghel develops a practice situated between assemblage, found object and sculptural installation, working with ready mades, mid century furniture, archival fragments and newly constructed elements. Currently based in Wrocław, Poland, she approaches objects through processes of collection, recontextualisation and material editing, treating assemblage as a form of visual writing. Her works often draw on domestic remnants, obsolete design, church candles, printed images and historical reproductions, allowing everyday materials to acquire unstable temporal and cultural readings. Anghel’s practice is marked by an interest in counter memory, informal archives and the afterlife of objects, with an aesthetic that brings together care, irony and unease. Works such as The Pacifist and Saint Incel of 4chan examine the circulation of violence, masculinity, punishment and popular imagery across historical and digital cultures. Her recent exhibition history includes The Well Upholstered Nightmare at Zina Gallery, Cluj Napoca, The Current Affair of Some Young Romanian Artists at Ivan Gallery, Bucharest, Silver Shining Tears at 3 a.m in Warsaw and Where Do We Go From Here? at Salonul de proiecte, Bucharest.
