Henry Mavrodin was an esteemed Romanian artist, designer, and professor. He studied at the Nicolae Grigorescu Fine Art Institute in Bucharest, where he later served as Dean of the Theory and Art History Faculty from 1996 to 2001. The practice of Mavrodin–spanning painting, drawing, illustration, and engraving–engenders deep art historical reflections of outstanding technical and conceptual qualities. In his poetic and visceral drawings, minimalist contours give shape to gestures and bodies that exceed the limits of natural reality. Mavrodin has had solo and group exhibitions in Italy, France, Hungary, Romania, and Sweden. In 1970, he was part of the Romanian Pavilion at the 35th Venice Biennale. His works are part of important collections such as the National Museum of Arts of Romania and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
