Jonathan Meese is a conceptual artist with a diverse practice that includes performance, installation, painting, and sculpture, and which mainly addresses the themes of power, desire, and identity. Meese uses a composite of references to historical, legendary, and science fiction figures, who can be said to represent different facets of the artist’s identity. Meese’s work is featured in several private and public collections internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Rubell Family Collection, Miami; the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk; the Sammlung Goetz, Munich; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; the Hall Art Foundation, New York; les Musées de la Ville de Strasbourg; and the De La Cruz Collection, Miami, among others.
