Description
Mihai Sârbulescu (b. 1957 in Bucharest) is a Romanian painter and co-founder of the Prolog artistic group, together with Paul Gherasim, Constantin Flondor, Christian Paraschiv, and Horea Paștina. During his formative years, Sârbulescu studied painting with Virgil Neagu and Liviu Lăzărescu, and later graduated from the Nicolae Grigorescu Art Institute in 1981.
Sârbulescu’s works often depict rural architecture and sceneries, floral arrangements, as well as liturgical objects, drawing influence from the Balchik School of Painting, and expressionist art. Notable is his symbolic use of colour in relation to themes such as nature’s rebirth, spirituality, and human existence. In his work, Untitled (1982), the bright yellow layers of oil paint dilute the contours of a seemingly human body.
His works have been exhibited in countries such as Germany, United States, Hungary, and Romania, in both solo and group participation. With the Prolog Group, Sârbulescu’s works have been shown in Italy, Romania, and Cyprus.
