Additional info:
Anca Benera is a Romanian artist. Early in her career, Benera started exploring painting as a tool of understanding and deconstructing different earthly representations, later extending her mechanisms of inquiry to other mediums. In 2011, Benera began working collaboratively with artist Arnold Estefan (b. 1978). With a focus on performance, installation, and video, Benera/Estefan are using a research-based apparatus to reveal different patterns that may be hidden in certain geopolitical dynamics, seeking to question social and historical narratives. Through keen observations and dismantling different social constructs such as land or territory, they explore various spatial transformations and recent landscape formations in relation to contemporary forms of violence and resource exploitation. Benera's work has been presented in multiple institutions, both local and international such as H'art Gallery, Bucharest; Galeria Nouă, Bucharest; Ion Mincu Institute for Architecture and Urbanism, Bucharest; Institute for New Media, Frankfurt; Loft Gallery, Istanbul; Skuc Gallery, Ljubljana; Esco Art Contemporain, Paris; Ernst Hilger Gallery, Vienna; Nahvision Gallery, Stuttgart; TRAFO Gallery, Budapest. Currently, together with Estefan, Benera is a Creative Fellow at the prestigious University College London, UK.
