Description

Camil Ressu was one of the most prominent Romanian art figures, standing out through the chromatic and thematic freshness that he brought into Romanian painting, but also for his pedagogical and academic activity. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest and Iasi, the painter who originated from an Aromanian family, continued his studies in Munich and Paris.

Returning to Romania, he became widely known after his participation in the “Artistic Youth” exhibition in 1910. Ressu was a professor and headmaster of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest and president of honour of the Romanian Union of Visual Arts.

Camil Ressu spent his summers at his house in Vlaici, a village in Oltenia, where he devoted his time almost exclusively to country life, capturing agricultural work and moments from the peasants’ life.
