Additional info:
Ciprian Radovan is a Romanian painter and art critic. Following an independent path in his artistic education, Radovan holds a doctoral degree in chemistry, a subject he has taught at university level whilst pursuing his artistic career. Since the late 1960s, Radovan has been a leading figure on the Timișoara art scene. Radovan’s painterly practice spans both figuration and abstraction, often intersecting Op art with traditional art motifs and showing a preoccupation with the surreal and the ornamental. His 1966 monotype series shows the artist’s involvement with the Timișoara neo-avant-garde–in its experimental and counter-cultural ethos. Earthly tones evoke an invented, otherworldly prehistory, inviting viewers to construct their own archeology of symbols. His works have been exhibited in solo and group shows in Romania and abroad, in countries such as Denmark, France, Germany, or the United States. In 2019, he participated in the prestigious art fair Vienna Contemporary with Jecza Gallery, in a dialogue booth with emerging artist Radu Oreian. Radovan’s paintings are part of important public and private collections internationally.
