Description
Dan Hatmanu (1926 - 2018) was a Romanian painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Art Institute in Iasi, further obtaining scholarships to perfect his technique at the Repin Academy in Sankt Petersburg (then, Leningrad) and at the Free Academy in Paris.
Hatmanu developed a vast oeuvre throughout his lifetime. He experimented with different styles of painting, from realism to constructivism, approaching daily life scenes, urban landscapes, portraits as well as more abstract compositions. His works often employ irony and lightheartedness.
Hatmanu participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in cities such as Budapest, Lisbon, Moscow, Prague, Sofia, or Tokyo. In 1954, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale in a group showcase at the Romanian Pavilion. His works are part of important public and private collections in Romania as well as abroad in Brazil, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Mexico.
