Description

Dumitru Ghiață was a Romanian painter. Initially a laboratory worker, he trained to become a painter with Arthur Verona over the course of three years. He later pursued the courses of the Ranson and Delécluse Academies in Paris on a scholarship obtained with the help of esteemed doctor Ioan Cantacuzino between 1913 and 1914.

Influenced by the Post-Impressionist techniques he studied in France, Ghiață developed a distinctive style by intertwining them with Romanian folk motifs, adapting to the local cultural context. His works mostly depict natural landscapes, still life, and rural scenes, using harmonious palettes of colours in concise, well-balanced compositions.

Ghiață exhibited in international Romanian art presentations in cities such as Budapest, Athens, Helsinki, Prague, London, and Torino. His works are part of private as well as public collections, examples of the latter being the National Museum of Art of Romania in Bucharest or the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris.
