Emilian Lăzărescu (b.1878 - d.1934) was a Romanian painter. He was admitted to study at the Belle Arte School in Bucharest in1904 and later relocated to Paris, where he received a scholarship to train as a painter under esteemed artists Leon Bonnat and Luc-Olivier Merson.
Lăzărescu’s works capture the effervescence of urban life, particularly in Paris and Bucharest, at the beginning of the 20th century. Foggy or rainy atmospheres convey an intimate perspective on bustling streets and squares–inviting the viewer to get lost wandering through historically layered sceneries. With particular attention to architectural landmarks, his paintings skillfully explore the symbolic processes of place-making.
Throughout his life, Lăzărescu exhibited on many occasions, and particularly in Bucharest. His works have been sold at auctions many times.
