Description
Fatima El-Hajj (b. 1953) is a prominent Lebanese painter celebrated for her masterful layering of colour and texture on her canvas. Raised in the coastal village of Rmeileh, near Saida, her early surroundings heavily influenced her artistic vision. El-Hajj graduated from the Institut des Beaux-Arts at the Lebanese University before continuing her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
El-Hajj's style is rooted in a deep sensitivity to light, form, and texture, influenced by her mentor Shafic Abboud and artists like Matisse and Vuillard. She was awarded the International Picasso Award in 1985 and her works have been widely exhibited across Europe and the Arab world.
