Additional info:
George Cyr is a French artist, (b. 1880 - d. 1964). Early in his artistic career, while on a tour in the Middle-East, he decided to settle in Beirut, where he frequented artists such as Shafiq Abboud, Omar Onsi and Moustapha Farroukh. Having spent half of his artistic life in Lebanon, he became regarded as part of the Lebanese modern art movement, and was even awarded the Lebanese National Order of the Cedar. Over the course of the artist’s life, one can see an oscillation between cubist oil paintings and watercolour still-lifes, portraits, landscapes and nudes. His wavering is said to be symptomatic of having been influenced by two cultures - of Paris and Beirut.
