Additional info:
Georges Mazilu is a Romanian artist known for his sepia-toned symbolist paintings. He fuses northern Renaissance style with Surrealism to create enigmatic figures in shadowy and ambiguous settings, the stylized figures with human heads from his paintings and drawings conveying a sense of blankness and contemplation. He studied at the Grigorescu Art Institute in Bucharest before fleeing the oppressive political regime in 1982 to France. Mazilu continues to live and work in France and frequently exhibits in contemporary galleries in Paris. He sees his work as a reflection of the absurd dimension of the political climate in which he was raised and considers his paintings to be a representation of his personal psychological narrative.
