Ioan Iacob

b. Biertan, Romania, 1954

Additional info:

Ioan Iacob is a Romanian painter who lives and works in Germany. He studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf with esteemed artist and professor Gotthard Graubner, known for his philosophy of color and abstract compositions. In 1982, he received the prestigious Max Ernst scholarship of the city of Bruhl to further pursue his artistic practice. Iacob’s works consist of still lives, landscapes, and portraits–the chosen subject matters are however treated as pretexts to experiment with color and with the different material sensibilities that emerge on the canvas through painting as practice. His works are remarkable reinterpretations of art historical motifs, further enriching Graubner’s explorations. Iacob has featured in exhibitions internationally, such as in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Israel, Netherlands, and the United States. His works are part of important museum collections in both Germany and Romania.
