Description

Ion Iancuț (b. 1950, Răducăneni, Iași) is a Romanian painter and sculptor who graduated in 1974 from the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Iancuț’s art practice has been acclaimed through local and international presentations of his work, in both solo and group shows, in countries such as Portugal, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Romania. His sculptures were part of the international symposiums from Leipzig and Iserlohn, Germany; Borkel & Schaft and Apeldoorn, Netherlands; Burgas, Bulgaria; and Otaru, Japan.

Iancuț's work revolves around figurative representations that embody influences from old master painters such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder or Hieronymus Bosch. His imaginative universe plays with dualities such as the King and the Jester, Father-Son, Mother-Son, which describe the intertwined relationships between generations and the gaps among them. Some of his portrayed characters are followed by dogs, elephants, and unicorns, a symbolic fauna that embodies a complex emotional state with multiple narratives.

Ion Iancuț's work is included in both private and public collections in countries such as Greece, Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Romanian, Japan, Sweden, and the US.
