Description
Ion Țuculescu is one of those artists who became famous only after passing away. Ion Țuculescu was born into a family of intellectuals, having an interesting but melancholic life story. Despite the talent and vocation for visual arts that he developed since childhood, Țuculescu followed the courses of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, in parallel with those of the Faculty of Medicine, which he graduated with magna cum laude.
He practised medicine just on the battlefield, as a military doctor. Although he devoted himself to medical university studies even during the war, Țuculescu continued to draw, paint and study fine arts independently.
He encountered many inconveniences and a hostile criticism related to his art, but with the help of some friends and admirers by his side he continued to paint and follow his dream.
Only towards the end of his life and especially after his death, Țuculescu’s art received the well-deserved recognition. Still lifes and subjects such as flowers (depicted in a realistic style) are themes that Țuculescu hardly painted. He depicted these subjects especially at the beginning of his career and towards the mid-’40s.
The works of art which are subject to artist resale royalty rights ('droit de suite') are marked with an * in the description of the work of art. The amount of the royalties is calculated using a sliding scale of percentages of the Hammer Price.
