Iosif Fekete was a Romanian sculptor. Between 1921 and 1927, he studied sculpture and painting at the Belle Arte School in Bucharest, under esteemed artists such as Dimitrie Paciurea and Fritz Storck. Fekete had his official debut as an artist at the Bucharest Salon in 1925, going on to receive multiple national awards throughout his career. In 1945, he permanently relocated to Oradea, some of his monumental works being on display in public space there, such as his locally cherished sculpture The Postman (1953). Another fundamental public work of Fekete is the Monument of the Heroes of The Air (1935) in Bucharest. The smaller scale works of Fekete are figurative, adopting a modern perspective on ancient sculptural types and depicting human, mythological, and animal characters. Fekete expressed his artistic language across different materialities, realising works in bronze, marble, stone, and ceramics. The works of Fekete are part of important museum collections in Romania, such as the Țării Crișurilor Museum, the National Museum of Art of Romania, and the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum.
