Description
Jan Kubíček (Kolín, 1927 – Kolín, 2013) was a Czech painter and printmaker, and one of the most radical Central European pioneers of constructivist and concrete art. From 1949 to 1953, he studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design under professor Jan Novak. Between 1954 and 1957, he pursued further studies in the department of scenography at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under professor Frantisek Tröster.
From 1962 to 1966, Kubíček developed a special technique of patterns and, through inscriptions and signs in his paintings, professed a special form of Lettrism, eventually arriving at totally autonomous geometry. Starting with 1967, Kubíček became one of the key figures of neo-constructivist tendencies. He was systematically involved in creating various geometric models, exploring their possibilities and variations. His paintings and prints are characterised by lines that, at the same time, divide the individual colour surfaces.
