Description
Jelena Trpković is a Belgrade based artist, born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1952. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Belgrade. She lived in Dubrovnik from 1980 to 1999, and worked as a professor at the Academy of Arts Novi Sad from 2000 till 2019. She is considered a leading female CEE figurative artist working with well-thought-out editing and interventions. Her numerous awards include: the Museum of Applied Art Award at the October Salon Belgrade and the Ivan Tabaković Fund Award of The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Works in public and private institutions include: MoCA Belgrade, Museum of Applied Arts Belgrade, National Museum Kruševac, Zepter Museum Belgrade, Collection of the Ministry of Culture Belgrade, Cabinet of Drawings at the Academy of Arts Novi Sad, Collection of the Cultural Center Belgrade Collection, Erland Josephson Collection Sweden, Native Museum of Upper Milanovac, and Šumatovačka Collection Belgrade.
Her recognisable insight into the consistently constructed compositions is fueled by current social themes and value models where the real and imaginary intertwine. The specific atmosphere in her work is built by cutting, stacking, glueing, drawing and colouring, from tempera, coloured pencils, pastels, clippings from old magazines and journals, newspaper photos, advertising brochures and calendars.
