Description
Kéfer – Dora Maar was the studio set up by Dora Maar and Pierre Kéfer, during early 1930’s on the Rue Campagne-Première on the outskirts of Paris.
Pierre Kéfer had been a decorator and set designer for Jean Epstein’s (1897-1953) film The Fall of the House of Usher (1928), however, the studio mainly focused on photography for advertisements and fashion magazines. Dora Maar considered her working with Kéfer as her “worldly period”.
Dora Maar was a French photographer and artist who was active from the 1920s to the 1940s. She was born on November 22, 1907 in France and her birth name was Henriette Theodora Markovitch. Maar is best known for her photographs of Paris and for being one of Pablo Picasso's muses and frequent photographic subjects. She was also a surrealist photographer and her work was influenced by the Surrealist movement of the time. Maar's photographs are known for their use of bold lines, unusual perspectives, and vibrant colors. In addition to her work as a photographer, Maar was also a painter and was involved in the Surrealist movement in Paris. She died on July 16, 1997 in Paris, France.
