Description
Leo Toteanu (b.1969) is a Romanian painter who came to art through an unconventional path, initially pursuing studies in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bucharest. Born in Câmpulung Muscel, he completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. His fascination with painting emerged later in life, beginning with digital experiments before developing into works on paper and canvas.
Toteanu’s practice reflects a gradual but determined shift towards the visual arts, where themes of spirituality and cultural heritage occupy a central place. His exhibition history includes solo shows such as Biserici ș iSfinți at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in 2024 and earlier presentations at the Art4all Cultural Centre. He has also participated in group exhibitions, including the Streetart Festival at CombinatulFondului Plastic, Ipostaze medievale at Casa Argintarului in Bistrița, and the Art4all Festival.
Through these projects, Toteanu positions himself within a contemporary re-engagement with religious iconography and vernacular forms of expression. His works combine a modern sensibility with a reverence for spiritual and historical continuity, qualities that resonate with both public audiences and private collectors.
