Description

Ljubica Cuca Sokić was born in 1914 in Bitola. She graduated from the Art school in Belgrade in 1934.

Between 1932 and 1936, she studied painting under professor Ivan Tabaković. She exhibited for the first time in 1937 in a group show at Galerie de Paris, and her first solo show was held at the Art Pavilion Cvijeta Zuzorić in Belgrade. She was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade from 1948 to 1972. In 1978, she was elected a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

She exhibited in numerous solo shows, including at the Art Pavilion Cvijeta Zuzorić, the National Museum in Kraljevo, the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade, the National Museum in Požarevac, the Gallery of the Association of Graphic Artists, Gallery ULUS, Gallery Zepter, Gallery RIMA, the National Museum in Kragujevac, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection in Novi Sad, and the Heritage House in Belgrade. She also participated in group exhibitions with artists from Serbia and Yugoslavia, both in Serbia and abroad.

Her works can be found in the National Museum in Belgrade, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the Belgrade City Museum, the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection in Novi Sad, National Museum in Požarevac, the National Museum in Niš, and the National Museum in Smederevska Palanka. Many of her works are also held in private collections in Serbia and abroad. Her legacy can be found in the Art Collection of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Heritage House in Belgrade.

She passed away in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2009.
