Ludovic Bassarab

Galați, Romania, 1868 - Bucharest, Romania, 1933

Additional info:

Ludovic Bassarab was a Romanian painter heavily influenced by the techniques of German academic realism. He first studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Iași, and then in Munich.  The meticulousness of his representations of rural life, stands testament, on the one hand, to his academic background, and on the other to his passion for miniatures. The often soft colour schemes of his paintings cast an atmospheric effect over the depicted scenes.  His works were exhibited at the Glaspalast, a grand exhibition space located in the city’s Botanical Garden that was destroyed in 1931, as well as in Berlin and at the Official Salon in Bucharest.
