Additional info:
Manuell Mănăstireanu is a Romanian visual artist who graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Iași, under the guidance of professor Dan Hatmanu. Mănăstireanu is renowned for his figurative painting style, spanning portraits and landscapes, paying particular attention to the chosen colour palettes to create dense, cinematic atmospheres. Red, white, dark blue, and black are symbolically enclosed in powerful illustrations throughout Mănăstireanu’s work. His subjects appear enigmatic and diaphanous, challenging common perceptions and media depictions of well-known figures such as Constantin Brâncuși, Queen Mary of Romania, or Franz Kafka. His paintings have been included in group shows and solo exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, and Romania. In 2014, Mănăstireanu was awarded the Painter of the City of Iași prize by the local municipality.
