Description
Marijan Molnar (b. 1951, Reka, Croatia) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1976 under professor Šime Perić. He is one of the most prominent Croatian conceptual artists from the 1970s. From 1976 to 1979, he was an associate of the master workshop of painters Ljubo Ivančić and Nikola Reiser. His practice includes photography, video, installations, and public actions. He questions personal identity through the duality of nature and culture, exploring philosophical and ontological meanings.
He belonged to a group of artists gathered around the Podroom Gallery, which was owned by two artists, Sanja Iveković and Dalibor Martinis. The group included Boris Demur, Tomislav Gotovac, Vlado Martek, Goran Petercol, Mladen Stilinović, Goran Trbuljak, among others. It served as a meeting point for the pioneers of new artistic practice, with Marijan Molnar being one of the main protagonists. He is a member of the PLEH artist collective, which includes Kata Mijatović, Zoran Pavelić, and Vlatko Vincek. He lives and works in Zagreb.
