Additional info:
Mihai Buculei is a Romanian sculptor who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1970. His body of work is widely recognised for several monumental sculptures, including the bust of Corneliu Coposu in Bucharest, as well as the statues of Simon Bolivar and Şerban Cantacuzino. Buculei’s participation in three sculpture camps during the 1970s and 1980s deeply influenced his understanding of the relationship between nature, public space and monuments. These experiences helped him appreciate the balance between the two and the expressive potential found within that interplay. Working primarily with wood and marble, his sculptures range from large-scale commemorative monuments to smaller works that explore specific elements such as wings, windows, and abstract shapes.
