Description

Mileta Prodanović (b. 1959, Belgrade) studied architecture and painting. In 1983 he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts mentored by professor Stojan Ćelić. In 1985 he received his master’s degree mentored by professor Zoran Petrović. He completed his specialization in London, at the Royal College of Arts in 1989-90. In 2009, under the mentorship of professor Čedomir Vasić, he obtained the title of Doctor of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade.

Mileta Prodanović has passed all teaching positions at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade - from assistant to full professor. In the period 2000-2003 and 2011-2014 he held the position of vice dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Within the University of Arts in Belgrade, he served as vice-rector 2015 to 2018, and then as rector from 2018 to 2019.

He has been active on the art scene since the 1980s. He exhibited at solo and group exhibitions in Yugoslavia and in several European cities (Rome, Tübingen, Toulouse, Carcassonne, Venice, Vienna, Graz, Prague, Regensburg, Kiev). His participation at the Biennale in Venice, in the Yugoslav pavilion, in 1986 is particularly significant. His works are in many private and public collections in Serbia (National Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade; Belgrade City Museum; Gallery of Matica Srpska, Novi Sad; Gallery of Contemporary Art, Niš; Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović”, Čačak; Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina, Novi Sad), former Yugoslavia and Europe.

He received numerous awards: 1984, Rijeka, IX International Exhibition of Original Drawings, redemption award; 1993. Belgrade, “Lazar Trifunović” Award for art criticism; 1996. Belgrade, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts - Award from the “Ivan Tabaković” fund for fine arts; 1999. Belgrade, 40th October Salon, Salon award; 2006. Novi Sad, “Sava Šumanović” Award for exceptional achievements in artistic expression in 2005; 2011. Zrenjanin, Award for modern artistic sensibility from the “Todor Manojlović” fund; 2017. Belgrade, Regional award “Trepetalo from Trogir”/ with Marija Dragojlović; 2018. Belgrade, “Politika” award from the “Vladislav Ribnikar” fund.

Since 1983, he has been publishing prose, essayistic texts in the field of visual arts and nonfiction. His books and individual texts were translated into English, German, French, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Macedonian.
