Description
Mișu Teișanu (b. 1883/4, Brăila - d. 1944, Bucharest) was a painter who studied at the Julian Academy in Paris under the guidance of William-Adolphe Bougereau. He returned to Bucharest after completing his studies, where he was also active as an illustrator.
His paintings, such as Interior (1919), take from his professor’s realist style and modern reinterpretations of classical subjects. The pile of fabrics, as if carelessly tossed by their almost certainly upper class owner, give the painting a comical appeal. On the right side of the canvas, we see the naked back of a woman in what seems to be the reflection of an awkwardly positioned mirror.
