Description

Nikola Velicki is a Belgrade based artist born in Niš, Serbia in 1983. He earned his Ph. D. at the Academy of Fine Arts Belgrade, where he is teaching today as an assistant professor in the graphics department.

He is the winner of three national awards - Great Seal Award given by the Gallery Graphic Collective, Belgrade, Award for graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts Belgrade and Award for graphics at the 13th Biennial of Student Drawing and Student Graphics given by “Students’ City” Cultural Center Belgrade.

Nikola Velicki starts from reduced forms, with the presence of figuration and animal motifs. With these elements, he intuitively builds a scene recognizable to the audience, caricaturing reality. The artist’s works are characterized by humor and an almost sarcastic, naive drawing that disarms the skepticism that develops in the viewer as a result of the recognizable motifs he uses in his setting on paper.

His most notable solo exhibitions include shows at Cultural Center Belgrade, (Serbia), Launch of the Calendar of the Center for Graphics and Visual Research, (Serbia), Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, Gdansk, (Poland), Belgrade Youth Center Gallery, (Serbia), Serbian Cultural Center, Paris, (France).
