Additional info:
Paul Covaci’s practice is shaped by a graphic arts education and a sustained engagement with sculpture, developed after his studies at the Art High School in Baia Mare and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the West University of Timișoara. Born in Dej in 1983, he is associated with the Baia Mare artistic scene, where his work has been shown in a series of personal exhibitions, including Capcanele figurativului, Mai mult sau mai puțin abstract, Body & Soul, Organic Shapes, Situations and Omul Recent. Working across sculpture, painting and object based assemblage, Covaci uses wood, marble, granite, resin, metal and found materials in works that move between figuration, satire and formal experiment. His visual language often draws on everyday realities, media images, social tensions and the contemporary body, treating the human figure less as anatomical description than as a carrier of character, humour and unease. The 2022 exhibition Omul Recent, held at the County Museum of Art, Baia Mare Artistic Centre, confirmed this interest in the recent human condition through a mixed body of painting and sculpture.
