Additional info:
Peter Jacobi is a German-Romanian artist whose work includes mainly sculpture and photography, two mediums that intertwine in his practice. He studied Sculpture at the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Jacobi’s artistic process employs a wide array of art historical and architectural references, such as to Constantin Brâncuși’s aesthetic concept, often revisiting his own past works through new object-based assemblages. His works are devoted to the idea of cultural memory, while the concept of time decisively bonds the understanding of the past to a better repositioning in the present. From his abstract constructive sculptures and photography to his textile works made in collaboration with his former partner Ritzi Jacobi, each and every work carries a knowing cognition. Jacobi’s works have been exhibited in countries such as Japan, Germany, Switzerland, South Korea, the US, in both solo and group shows. Together with Ritzi Jacobi, he represented Romania at the Venice Biennale in 1970. His works are part of important public collections worldwide, such as the Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kunstbesitz Berlin, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest (MNAC), The Detroit Institute of Arts, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the Forest Sculpture Garden in Beijing, or MUMOK Wien.
