Additional info:
Petre Achițenie was a Romanian painter and professor at the Nicolae Grigorescu Fine Art Institute in Bucharest. Throughout his career, Achițenie’s practice evolved from realist and figurative painting to an abstract symbolic approach. In his later abstract work, symmetry, regular geometries, and the use of primary colours suggest the canvas as a place of spiritual genesis and emotional quiet. The painter thus manages to establish profound connections between tradition and modernity, the sacred and the profane. Exhibitions including Achițenie’s works have taken place across Romania, and have been sold at auctions many times.
