Additional info:
Sabin Bălașa was a famous Romanian visual artist, known especially for his paintings and large scale public murals. During communism, Bălașa was the Ceaușescu couple’s most preferred artist, dedicating numerous works to the ruler and his wife. Whether drawing from socialist themes, reimagining Romanian historical figures or mythological creatures, his works are highly recognizable by the ever-present cosmic blue backgrounds and tones, giving way to hopeful or luxuriant universes to emerge. Many of Bălașa’s paintings imagine fantastic narratives and galactic journeys through space and time, in surreal and eerie landscapes that take as much from science fiction as from Romanian folk tales. The works of Sabin Bălașa have been exhibited in Stockholm, Rome, Moscow, Bucharest, Iași, Tbilisi, Kerkera.
