Description
Sigismund Maur played a significant role in the Romanian avant-garde art scene. Returning from studies in Berlin and Zurich, he found refuge in Switzerland during World War I. Maur's exposure to European art movements influenced his work, spanning cubism, futurism, expressionism, and more.
In 1920, he attended the 12th International Art Exhibition in Venice, where he observed and critiqued various avant-garde movements. Maur, known for his satirical illustrations and contributions to Romanian publications, became a prominent figure in the local art scene. His critical writings and artistic endeavors reflected a commitment to avant-garde principles, making him a pioneer in shaping Romania's modern art landscape.
