Additional info:
Simion Cantemir Hauși (b. 1976-) is an internationally recognised visual artist from Romania who works primarily with painting. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj. Hauși’s practice immerses its subjects in an eerie aesthetic that is highly compelling and cinematically expressive. His depictions of the natural world reveal the complexity of landscape and its hauntedness in the present–in plays of light and darkness, and often cold greens and blues, skillfully employed to create intricate narratives. Atmospheres of disturbance and intrusion, intimacy and surveillance, seem to reach beyond the canvas. For over a decade, Hauși has exhibited widely, with solo showcases in spaces such as Galerie Barbara Thumm (DE), Tajan (FR), Faye Flemming / Arquebuse (CH), De Muse Gallery (BE), or the Art Museum in Cluj (RO). Hauși has participated in international showcases such as the Art Encounters Biennial in 2017 in Timișoara and the Prague Biennial in 2009, as well as important survey exhibitions of Romanian art across Europe.
