Ștefan Botiș is a visual artist from Romania working with painting and drawing. He studied at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca at doctoral level, with additional training at Saarbrücken HBK in Germany. The artist’s paintings adopt a figurative style that defies realism by entangling landscape with portraiture, cutting across usual dichotomies between interior/exterior, human/natural. Elements such as fire, water, air become recurring motifs that disturb order and alert to the difficult politics of our times. Botiș’ works have been included in exhibitions in Cluj-Napoca, Berlin, Bucharest, and Hamburg. His works have been sold at auctions many times.
