Description

Ștefan Luchian started his career as a teenager and was immediately in the spotlight. He studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest with Theodor Aman and Gheorghe Tătărăscu. Soon after, he went to Munich and then to Julian Academy in Paris. Being an effervescent and anti-academic figure, Luchian stated that he only looked up to Nicolae Grigorescu and the great museums of the world.

The beloved painter Ștefan Luchian died at forty-eight years old, leaving behind an artistic heritage created as a tribute to life and human beings, consisting of landscapes, still lifes, portraits and battle scenes. His gentle and gracious work speaks for people from various social structures.

The work “House in Brebu” depicts subjects that the artist explored after he moved to Câmpina, in the village of Brebu where he produced some truly brilliant works in pastel and charcoal. This period is considered the peak of his artistic career.
