Additional info:
Ștefan Sava is a Bucharest based visual artist and curator whose practice brings together photography, video, performance and object based work. Trained at the Photo and Video Department of the National University of Arts Bucharest, where he completed both his MA and PhD, Sava developed a sustained research interest in postmemory, recent history and the visual afterlives of the Holocaust in Romania. His artistic work examines the limits of representation in relation to history, archival material and material culture, often approaching the image as a site where memory, evidence and bodily experience remain unstable. He is a founding member of Salonul de proiecte, an independent space in Bucharest dedicated to research and artistic production. His exhibitions include Land of Fire at Kunsthalle Bega in Timișoara in 2024, In the Beloved Bucharest at Ivan Gallery in 2021, The Photographic Archive and History in Transformation at Salonul de proiecte in 2019, Gates and Ploys. Casting a Shadow with Ion Grigorescu at Ivan Gallery in 2018, The Falling of the Arches at the Riga Photography Biennial in 2016, and Mapping Bucharest, Art, Memory, and Revolution 1916 to 2016 at the Vienna Biennale in 2015.
