Description
Tadeusz Brzozowski (1918-1987) was a Polish artist and photographer. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and held teaching positions at various institutions throughout his life, including the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Krakow Group and the international Group Phases, which brought together painters inspired by Surrealism and non-geometric, aggressive, lyrical abstraction.
Brzozowskiwas known for his playful attitude towards art and often expressed sarcasm towards his own achievements. He began painting expressively deformed figures and objects, granting them status of existential symbols and gradually his work approached abstraction, characterised by tattered areas of intense colour and sharp, convulsive lines.
In his later years, he returned to figural representation creating works that were stylistically distinctive and garnered critical and public acclaim.
