Description
Vincențiu Grigorescu (1923-2012) was a Romanian visual artist who studied architecture and arts in Bucharest.
Initially dedicating himself to graphic design, later in his career Grigorescu distanced himself from the formal constraints of Socialist Realism, adopting a geometric abstractionist style. In the early 1970s he sought political asylum in Italy, where he remained for the rest of his life and gained critical recognition from numerous institutions and art critics alike. Neutral colours dominate Grigorescu’s universe, in superimposed layers of paint that often create raw-looking surfaces, like strata of memory that slowly subdue and get entangled together.
Grigorescu’s works have been exhibited in solo and group shows worldwide, in Bucharest, Dusseldorf, Ala, Uppsala, New York, Linkoping, Milan, Copenhagen, Biella, Bologna, Bruxelles Rome, Milan, Turin, London, Geneva, Mexico, Moscow, Beijing, Warsaw, Prague, Paris, New Delhi, Montreal, Quebec, Baghdad, Sofia, Havana.
