Additional info:
Wanda Sachelarie Vladimirescu was a Romanian painter and graphic artist. She graduated from the Art Academy in Bucharest under the guidance of Frederic Stork and George Matei Cantacuzino, amongst others, completing her studies in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Wanda Sachelarie Vladimirescu is known for her modernist approach to portraiture, constructing a highly unique and ludic universe. Blending vibrant colours, her paintings often reflect on themes such as childhood, solitude and intimacy. Human bodies appear distorted and abstracted, with slightly exaggerated hips, often superimposed on monochromatic backgrounds. During the first decade of the communist regime, the artist refused to adhere to the imposed socialist realist aesthetic. The artist’s works are part of important collections, such as that of the Bucharest Municipal Museum or the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR).
