Description
Dinu Săvescu, born in 1956 in Arad, Romania, is a painter and award-winning restorer. He studied Painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest and has been a member of the Artist Union in Romania since 1990. His work is renowned for its in-depth exploration of post-Byzantine painting from the 17th and 18th centuries, a focus that has led him to participate in the restoration of mural paintings in various churches across Transylvania and Moldavia.
Săvescu’s style is heavily influenced by expressionist painter Ion Țuculescu, particularly in the way both artists approach the painterly surface. Their shared technique involves a unique arrangement of oil colours and a distinctive perception of space, creating a sense of tridimensionality and depth while maintaining a relationship between the object and the flatness of the painting’s surface. Often incorporating vibrant compositions of fragments of Romanian traditional textiles on his canvases, his work bridges the historical past with a dynamic energy and a strong sense of contemporaneity.
His latest solo exhibition was held at Galeria Romană in Bucharest in 2024, following previous shows at the National Museum of Fine Arts of Moldova, the Cotroceni National Museum in Bucharest and Museikon in Alba Iulia.
