Description
Constantin Aricescu (b. 1861 – d. 1933) was a Romanian painter, known for his atmospheric landscapes. Educated abroad, he exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1899 and, returning home, he became actively engaged in Bucharest’s artistic circles.
While Aricescu’s paintings have been associated by some critics with Impressionist art, his works equally express a lyrical aura, reminiscent of late 19th-century Romantic literature and music. Painted in faint, delicate colours, Aricescu’s landscapes are almost always devoid of human presence. Forests, meadows, deltas, mountain valleys are imbued in an eerie haze which only amplifies their dusky silence.
Aricescu’s works are part of important national collections, such as that of The National Museum of Art of Romania in Bucharest. His works have been sold at auctions many times.
