Description
Vladimir Zamfirescu was an esteemed Romanian artist working primarily with painting and drawing. He studied painting under renowned artist Corneliu Baba at the Nicolae Grigorescu Fine Art Institute in Bucharest.
The portraiture of Zamfirescu features characters with elusive faces, often turned sideways–contemplative or suffering, they evoke intricate and powerful internal struggles. The nude body is a recurring subject in his work, extending his exploration of the human condition.
Solo and group exhibitions of Zamfirescu have taken place in Romania and abroad, in countries such as Germany, France, India, Italy, Morocco, the United States, to name a few. Leading institutions where he has shown works include Tate Gallery, London, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and the Marmottan Museum in Paris. His works are part of important private collections, including those of Queen Sonia of Norway and the Swedish Royal House.
The works of art which are subject to artist resale royalty rights ('droit de suite') are marked with an * in the description of the work of art. The amount of the royalties is calculated using a sliding scale of percentages of the Hammer Price.
