Description
Rodica Maniu Mützner (b. 1890 - d. 1958) was a Romanian painter. She studied under the guidance of esteemed artist Nicolae Vermont, and later at the Julian Academy in Paris.
Maniu’s works consist mostly of landscapes, portraits and genre paintings, being representative of the painterly debates and techniques of the interwar period in Romania. Associated with the Balcik School of Painting, her landscapes capture the vibrancy of the sea, as well as the seaside village culture of the time. As for her portraits, she often depicts women in both public and private settings–with an intimate and knowledgeable eye.
During her lifetime, Maniu exhibited her works widely, in solo as well as group showcases. In Bucharest, starting with 1912 she participated in the Artistic Youth exhibitions, and later in the Official Salons. In 1924, she exhibited at the Venice Biennale and in 1929 at the International Exhibition in Barcelona.
Her works are part of important public and private collections, including the National Museum of Art of Romania.
