Description
A small rectangular ring box, raised on four semi-spherical feet executed in filigree, with a hinged lid surmounted by a sculptural rose in ronde-bosse, also worked in filigree. The body combines hammered construction with areas of filigree and simulated filigree, creating a rich decorative surface that contrasts openwork delicacy with more compact structural elements.
The box is fitted with a hinged lid and a small filigree clasp, integrating function with ornamental refinement. The piece reflects the high level of craftsmanship associated with mid-19th century Moscow silverwork, where filigree techniques were employed for both structural and decorative effect.
The hallmarks confirm Moscow production in 1862, with the 88 zolotniki standard indicating a high silver purity (approx. 916.6‰), and the assay mark of Viktor Savinkov. The maker’s mark “ВП” (VP in Cyrillic) remains unidentified.
