Description
An oval silver basket, executed in hammered technique, with a broad pierced rim richly decorated with scrolling floral and vegetal motifs. The openwork border frames a central reserve featuring a repoussé scene of a pastoral gathering, a subject frequently encountered in European decorative arts of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo inspiration.
The figural scene, rendered with depth and movement, reflects late historicist taste and the continued appeal of idyllic rural imagery in decorative silver.
The marks indicate German manufacture in 800 standard silver, with additional workshop punches. A Romanian re-assay mark (1927–1936) attests to the object’s later circulation and verification within the Romanian system.
