Description

A rectangular cigarette case with hinged lid, cast and finely engraved with a guilloché ground. The surface is structured by linear patterning typical of Jugendstil and Edwardian decorative vocabulary, centred by a cabochon-set stone, which introduces a restrained chromatic accent.

The design combines functional clarity with refined surface treatment, characteristic of early 20th-century German silver. The presence of the D.R.G.M. mark indicates that the object incorporates a registered design or technical feature, most likely related to the clasp or construction.

The mark “D.R.G.M.” (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) refers to a German system of registered utility designs in use between 1891 and 1945. The number “207015” corresponds to a registration from 1903, indicating protection of a specific design or mechanism considered innovative at the time.

The hallmarks confirm German manufacture in 800 standard silver, with a Romanian re-assay mark (1906–1926) indicating later circulation and verification within Romania.
