Description

An elliptical fruit bowl raised on four cast feet, with a broad, scalloped rim richly decorated with acanthus leaves and four stylised tulip motifs placed at the cardinal points. The central field is finished in a hammered horror vacui treatment, creating a dense, textured surface that contrasts with the more plastic modelling of the border.

The feet are cast and pierced in the form of griffins, introducing a sculptural, zoomorphic element that reinforces the Neo-Baroque character of the piece. The combination of repoussé ornament, casting and hammering reflects a complex manufacturing process and a decorative vocabulary rooted in historicist revival styles.

The absence of official assay marks suggests production outside a regulated hallmarking system or within a local or workshop-based context. The repeated punching of the maker’s mark indicates workshop-level control over material and execution.
