Description

Alem Korkut was born in 1970 in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo and at the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb, where he graduated in 1997. Since 2007, he has been teaching sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb, currently in the position of an Associate Professor. Since 2004, he has been a member and a president of Art Organization Žitnjak Ateliers Zagreb. Korkut is recognised as a leading contemporary Croatian and CEE sculptor. He is the author of several seminal public sculptures in Croatia, including Caryatid in Pazin (2002), Bicycle monument in Koprivnica (2005), Memorials to the War Veterans of the Homeland War in Croatia in Šibenik (2006), Karlovac (2009) and Koprivnica (2016). He is the recipient of many awards, most notably the Grand Prize of the 27th Youth Salon Zagreb in 2004; the Grand Prize of the Split Salon in 2009; the third prize at the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb T-HT Awards 2011, and the 13th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture Award in 2018. His exhibitions include the MoCA Zagreb, MoCA Pula, MoMA Zagreb, MoMA Split, Center for printing and visual studies of Belgrade, Lauba Zagreb, Gallery Kranjčar Zagreb, Gallery Mijejska Gdansk, and Gallery Art Signe Munich.
